Frida Kahlo painted mostly self portraits. In her lifetime, she painted 143 paintings in all and 55 of them were self portraits. In her paintings she explained her life in a secretive way. She said “I paint myself because I'm so often alone.” The picture below is one of Frida’s 55 self portraits. It shows how close she was to her pet monkeys. She loved the monkeys because she couldn’t have children, so she adopted multiple wild animals and treated them like there her kids. Self Portrait with Monkey This is a self portrait painting I made for my project. I made it because it is the same type of art as Kahlo- surrealism. (I’ll talk about surrealism in my next blog). It resembles everything I like, such as, family, basketball, dogs, and writing. The colors around it are “emotions”. Red=mad, orange=excited, yellow=happy, green=bored, blue=sad, and purple=scared.
