We had 86 cookie makers! I'm so proud of all the wonderful reading that happened over December's break. The cookie characters are creative and unique! They are displayed in the hallways for our school to see. Way to go readers!
Since we have been back to school, we have been busy in the library. Kindergarten has learned to sing and do the "Bookey Lookey" to find books that are just right on the shelves! Centers are also an engaging part of our library routines where children explore computer websites, illustrating and writing like an author or artist, and figuring out puzzles. First graders are enjoying books by Audrey Wood as well as looking at thinking about being safe online. We are practicing finding information from text and writing the 'treasure words', the ones that answer our question. Second graders completed an author study of Tomie dePaola. We wrote book reviews of our favorite titles! We move into a unit of folk tales next. Third graders are using Google Classroom in the library too! Students participated in self-directed learning about the non-fiction books in the library. We will also take a closer look at searching using strong keywords. Fourth graders are digging through information to find all the possible answers to a question and recording the information in note form. Chris van Allsburg is our featured author and we continue to enjoy books he has written and illustrated. We will move into discussing internet safety and topics related like what is personal information. I love reading, discussing, creating and thinking with all the students in Hope Valley Library! Stay cozy on the cold nights with a great book! Love, Mrs. Ward
